British naval admiral (1859–1935) best known for commanding the Grand Fleet at the Battle of Jutland during World War I. TLS signed “J. Jellicoe,” one page, 7 x 7, The Mall House letterhead, January 9, 1918. Jellicoe politely declines an invitation. In part: “I very much regret to say that it will be quite impossible for me to preside at the Meeting which is being arranged in aid of ‘The Nation’s Fund for Nurses.’” Intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, a few wrinkles, and a notation to top right, otherwise fine condition.
