Included in this lot we have a framed John James Audubon lithograph titled "Common Buzzard" originating from the early to mid 19th century. John James Audubon (1785-1851) was an American artist, Naturalist, and ornothologist. He is best known for his book "The Birds of America" in which he found and painted life sized paintings of over 700 different species of bird found in North America and discovered 25 new species and 12 sub species in the process. This piece features a common buzzard as it swoops down to grab a rabbit. The art shows excellent attention to detail and wonderful coloration. The lithograph is marked "No. 2 PL. 6" across the top indicating it is number two from plate six. It is marked across the bottom reading "Common Buzzard - Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon. F.R.S.F.L.S. - Lith.d Printed & Col.d by J.T. Bowen Philad.a". The art is set into a custom gilt gold painted frame with a tan border around the lithograph. The back of the frame is marked with two different art gallery tags one from Texas and one from Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The piece shows good condition with some very light wear on the frame. The frame measures 15 1/4" wide by 19 1/2" tall with the art measuring 9 3/8" tall by 5 5/8" wide.
