Real estate magnate, military officer, and heir to the Astor fortune (1864–1912) who perished in the Titanic disaster. Importers and Traders National Bank check, 8 x 3.25, filled out in another hand and signed by H. Morrison as executor of the estate of H. L. Hart, payable to the Trustees of John Jacob Astor for $647.90, May 14, 1886. Endorsed on the reverse by Astor, “J. J. Astor, Atty.” In very good condition, with a central vertical fold, expected cancellation cuts, and moderate show-through from writing on opposing sides.
