TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, January 24, 1933. Letter concerning his appointment to a memorial committee. In part: “I am in entire agreement with the idea of having some sort of memorial to the memory of Ambassador Jusserand. As you say, his career was outstanding and he was in America long enough to become almost one of us. It was my pleasure to have him as a friend…With the understanding that nothing at all could be expected of me in connection with the duties of such a committee, I would be glad, of course, to have you put me on the list. This is with the further understanding that this committee shall not undertake to make any public appeal for contribution.” In fine condition, with a light block of uniform toning over text from previous display, and a few creases. Jean Jules Jusserand was a French diplomat who served as ambassador to the United States from 1902 to 1925. A close friend of every US President during that period, he did much to promote friendly Franco-American relations and to win the United States to the Allied side in World War I.
