John Hersey (1914-1993) served as a correspondent in Europe and Asia during World War II. His 1945 <I>New Yorker</B></I> story, "Hiroshima," which focuses on six victims of the bombing, was later expanded into a book. Hersey's novels include the Pulitzer Prize-winning <I>A Bell for Adano </B></I>(1945) and <I>The Wall</B></I> (1950), an account of the Nazi destruction of the Warsaw Ghetto The blank page after the front endpaper is signed <I>"John Hersey"</B></I>.
