This John Haymson handcolored pen and ink print, ?Bourbon St., New Orleans?, was apparently drawn in the 1940s, as the vintage of the parked car shows. The print shows a non-Mardi Gras day on Bourbon Street in New Orleans! People walk casually along the sidewalk under the wrought iron balconies of the French Quarter, and the scene is serene. The building at the end of the street shows the intersection of the cross streets. The image extends to the red retro frame and is 9 x 12 inches.

This is an older print which looks original. Despite my research, I have been unable to locate another copy of this print and assume that it is not published at this time, which adds to its value.

(For a bit of history: John Haymson was both a fine artist and an illustrator of watercolors within architectural settings, which is why many of his works show scenes encircled by vignetted trees. He was born in Vienna, Austria in 1902 and began his art early.

Studying at the renowned Academy of Fine Art in Vienna, he worked with Luigi Kasimir, one of the modern master etchers, and became his protogee. He also studied stage and costume design with Max Reinhart in Salzburg. He lectured in art and aesthetics at museums and colleges and conducted student group excursions to Europe and Mexico for sketching classes. His works often shows scenes through Europe, Asia, and America, in cities and public squares, or scenes of typical activities of people in a location.)
