Superb dark ink signature, “John Hancock,” with “By order of Congress,” written above the signature, and “Presid,” written next to his signature, both in another hand, on an off-white 4.5 x 1.75 slip affixed to an identical size card. Uniform toning, light show-through from text on reverse, and a rough top edge, otherwise fine condition. A truly striking signature, most likely from Hancock’s time as president of the Continental Congress from 1775-1777.
