As governor of Massachusetts, Hancock appoints William Barnard as "Jun'r second Lieutenant of a Company of Artillery raised in the fourth Division of the [M]ilitia of this Commonwealth comprehending the County of Hampshire." Boldly signed on the left side by Hancock, and countersigned by John Avery as secretary. The official seal affixed to the upper left is intact. Handsomely mounted, cloth-matted, and framed with an engraved portrait and plaque to an overall size of 36 x 24. In fine condition.
