Faneuil Hall lottery ticket, nicely signed at the bottom, “John Hancock,” 3.25 x 2, dated June 1765. Ticket reads, in full: “Faneuil-Hall Lottery, No. Five. The possessor of this ticket (No. 3829) is intitled to any Prize drawn against said Number, in a Lottery granted by an Act of the General Court of the Province of Massachusetts-Bay for Rebuilding Faneuil-Hall; subject to no Deduction.” Matted and framed by Goodspeed’s Book Shop in Boston, with a portrait of Hancock, to an overall size of 7.5 x 11.75. Clipped left edge and lower corner, not affecting any of the text or signature, and some scattered light toning, otherwise fine condition. In March 1765, 28-year-old John Hancock was elected as one of Boston’s five selectman, his first political office.
