Handwritten endorsement, “Accepted, John Hancock,” dated in his hand, September 21, 1767, at the bottom of a 8.5 x 3.5 financial document sent to Hancock, dated September 12, 1767. Document reads, “At Ten days Light of this my First Exchange Second of the Same Tenor & date not paid pleased to pay Major Pierce Butler or Order One Hundred & Fifty Three Dollars…and Charge it with or without further Advice.” Hancock’s bold endorsement appears at the bottom of the page. Matted and framed with an engraved portrait of Hancock to an overall size of 15 x 19. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, a couple small vertical separations, a uniform shade of toning, missing lower left corner tip, and a bit of light soiling. Later on, during the American Revolution, Butler would have a price placed on his head for organizing American forces to fight the invading Redcoats.
