Revolutionary war-dated document signed ''John Hancock''. Dated 23 May 1782, war-dated document attests to Captain Benjamin Lovett of Beverly, Essex County, Massachusetts' oath that the ship ''Fox'', captained by Israel Johnson, is ''...a prize and legally condemned in a maritime court...'' The HMS Fox was captured by the American Navy in June 1777. Partially printed document is counter-signed by John Avery. Measures 13'' x 8.5''. Framed alongside a portrait of Hancock. Scattered repairs to verso and some soiling to margins, else near fine.
