In this note Hancock continues to fight the tax import bill. In full it reads: "I am exceedingly fond that an Import Bill should pass, & would most cheerfully give my Sanction to one that shall appear to be fram'd upon the principle of the Constitution. The present Bill I conceive to be an Additional paragraph to the Confederation, the propriety of which I doubt without the Consent of the people at large." The provenance is from the Hancock-Chase Collection, formerly house at the National Museum of American History. Fine condition; creasing; some separations at fold; overall toning; overall brittleness.

Important notice
