A finely detailed chromolithograph titled Eupetomena Hypocyanea by celebrated 19th-century ornithologist and illustrator John Gould and H.C. Richter . The work depicts a pair of vibrant hummingbirds perched among exotic flowering foliage, rendered with exceptional precision and delicate color gradients. The plate is identified with printed inscriptions including Gould's name and the lithographers Hullmandel & Walton. Set in a bamboo-style wooden frame with gilt inner trim and preserved under glass. John Gould was an English ornithologist and publisher, widely regarded for his monumental illustrated works on birds. Often referred to as the British Audubon, Gould's ornithological volumes were scientifically significant and visually stunning, featuring lithographs created with his collaborators, including H.C. Richter, Edward Lear and his wife Elizabeth Gould.
