Organized crime boss (born 1940) who became a major media celebrity. After an extensive operation that cost $75 million, Gotti, who had repeatedly eluded the law, was convicted of murder and racketeering in 1992. As a repeat offender, he was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole and sent to federal prison in Marion, Illinois, where he died in 2002. ALS signed “Johnny,” two pages, lightly-lined, 8.5 x 11, no date. Letter to Barbara DeCicco, daughter of George DeCicco, New York mobster and longtime Capo in the Gambino crime family. In part: “Moving on, thank you for your thoughts concerning my son John’s situation. What they’re trying to do with him is a travesty of justice at its worst. I know I don’t have to tell you my feelings or thoughts about this, but John is both strong and innocent and he’ll be fine.” In fine condition. John Gotti, Jr.was indicted on racketeering in 1998, as he was believed to be acting boss of the family. Against his father's wishes, John Jr. pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years and five months imprisonment in 1999.
