John Glenn's Mercury-Atlas 6 Mission 26 Photos
John Glenn's Mercury-Atlas 6 Mission - Group of 26 Original NASA Photographs. Those of us born in the first few years of the "baby boom" generation tend to be fascinated by the U.S. space program and certainly John Glenn, who was one of its first national "heroes." He flew in a Mercury capsule dubbed Friendship 7 three times around the earth on February 20, 1962. One of the original "Mercury Seven" astronauts, Glenn trained long and hard for his mission and returned, deservedly, to a hero's welcome with public parades and presidential accolades.

This vintage collection of 26 official NASA 8" x 10" glossy color and B&W photos all picture the young ex-Marine fighter pilot John H. Glenn, Jr. or the rocket that blasted him into orbit. Included are several of Glenn with President John F. Kennedy or Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson taken after the successful flight. Glenn later served as a U.S. Senator from Ohio from 1974-1999 and, in 1998, made a second trip into space aboard Discovery (STS-95) at age 77 to study the effects of space flight on the elderly. A very difficult collection to assemble. Generally very fine condition. From the collection of renowned former physical trainer of the astronauts Joe Garino. This lot is accompanied by a signed certificate of authentication from Garino verifying its provenance.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
