Oscar-nominated actor (1913–1952) who appeared in such classics as The Postman Always Rings Twice and Gentleman’s Agreement. Outspoken in his liberal political beliefs, Garfield was blacklisted in Hollywood during the McCarthy Era, leading to his return to the stage and his premature death at the age of 39. Vintage program from the Plymouth Theatre’s 1949 presentation of ‘The Big Knife,’ starring Garfield and directed by Lee Strasberg, 6 x 9, signed on the front cover in fountain pen by Garfield as well as nine other cast members. In fine condition, with some light contrast to Garfield’s signature, light brushes to a couple other signatures, and mild handling wear.
