Oscar-nominated actor (1913–1952) who appeared in such classics as The Postman Always Rings Twice and Gentleman’s Agreement. Blacklisted in Hollywood for his liberal beliefs amid the second Red Scare, a 39-year-old Garfield died of heart failure just two months after returning to the stage in a revival of Golden Boy. Glossy 8 x 10 publicity photo of Garfield reading in front of the hearth, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Arthur—Good luck—John Garfield.” A few small edge tears, a crease and a bit of crazing to finish in lower portion, and edges curling up, otherwise fine condition.
