John Galsworthy (1867-1933) began his career as an attorney specializing in marine law. He took a voyage around the world, during which he met Joseph Conrad on a merchant ship. Conrad inspired him to begin writing. Galsworthy wrote 20 novels, 27 plays, and 173 short stories, and is remembered mainly for the The Forsythe Saga, a series of novels that began with "The Man of Property" (publ. 1906). He won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 1932.
