<B>John G. Foster Signature</B></I> "<I>J. G. Foster</B></I>" as a bvt. major general excised from a letter and matted into a period engraving 3.5" x 7.25" in size overall. Foster was a career military officer and engineer who served the Union during the Civil War and later became an expert in underwater demolition.
