John F. Kennedy typed letter signed, dated 6 October 1954 on official ''United States Senate'' stationery. Letter on one page is addressed to Joseph Finn, Acting Postmaster in Boston, and recommends a former employee for a newly opened Dispatcher position. Reads in full: ''Dear Mr. Finn: I am writing in the interest of Mr. Joseph Cardinal who has been employed with the Post Office Department for 31 1/2 years. In 1937, Mr. Cardinal took an examination for clerk-carrier. In 1950, he applied for a position which required clerical, typing and time keeping and was appointed clerk in the Vehicle Service with no change in pay status. It is my understanding that there is now a vacancy as Dispatcher for which Mr. Cardinal might be qualified. He has spent four of his 31 1/2 years in the office doing administrative work. I would greatly appreciate your favorable consideration of Mr. Cardinal when this position is being filled as I am most anxious to be of all possible assistance to him. With every good wish, I am Sincerely yours, John F. Kennedy''. Signed ''John Kennedy'' in black ink above his typed name. With two expected folds from mailing and a staple mark at top left. Letter, measuring 8'' x 8'' is nicely framed to an overall size of 13.5'' x 17.25''. Near fine.
