Vintage matte-finish 7.5 x 9.5 photo of Kennedy taken after being nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate in August of 1960, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "To Franklin Williams—with warm regards, John Kennedy.” Handsomely matted and framed to an overall size of 13 x 16. In very good to fine condition, with some creasing in the top border. Although taken in the summer of 1960 by Alfred Eisenstaedt, this was the preferred portrait Kennedy would sign and give out during the beginning of his administration.

Franklin Hall Williams was a lawyer and civil rights leader in the United States (1917–1990) who, as an assistant to Thurgood Marshall, represented the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People before courts in criminal cases throughout the South. In 1950 he was appointed director of the NAACP's western region where for nine years he directed drives involving open housing, school desegregation and civil rights.
