Classic matte-finish 7.5 x 9.5 portrait of President Kennedy affixed to its original 9.75 x 13.5 mount, signed and inscribed on the mount in fountain pen as president, “To Robert Woodward—with high confidence and every good wish—John F. Kennedy.” In very good to fine condition, with a thin horizontal stain touching one word of the sentiment, two small areas of missing emulsion to the edges of the image, and light irregular toning to the trimmed mount. Woodward was a career American diplomat who focused on international relations with various countries in Latin America. He had been ambassador to Uruguay for three years when Kennedy took office and JFK soon named him ambassador to Chile, a position he held for just three months. In the wake of the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, Woodward was made Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs, serving for a year before becoming ambassador to Spain. A superb association with international relations during the Kennedy presidency.
