Typed proclamation issued by Lyndon B. Johnson to announce November 25, 1963, the funeral service of President John F. Kennedy, a national day of mourning, one page, 8.5 x 11, signed in the lower border in ink or felt tip by Sarah T. Hughes (Judge who administered the oath of office to Lyndon B. Johnson), John W. McCormack (Former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives), Arthur Goldberg (Former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States), and Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. (Appointed by Kennedy as United States Ambassador to South Vietnam). The proclamation reads, in part: "John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th President of the United States, has been taken from us by an act which outrages decent men everywhere. He upheld the faith of our fathers, which is freedom for all men. He broadened the frontiers of that faith, and backed it with the energy and the courage which are the mark of the Nation he led.” In fine condition, with a few small stains, and staple holes to the upper left corner. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from a former owner.
