An Important Document Signed By John F. Kennedy While U.S. Senator Giving Power Of Attorney To His Lawyer To Exercise Control Over His Vast Oil Holdings.
John F. Kennedy Document Signed as Senator. Two pages on separate leaves, 8.5" x 13", New York, June 8, 1955. During the time he was a senator from 1952 to 1960 his presidential ambitions developed, and more of his energies became channeled towards this goal, and on January 2, 1960, he declared his candidacy. Kennedy had a sizable estate due to his father's great wealth. He must have felt that his political activities made it necessary to grant a power of attorney over his oil holdings. It mentions, in part: "...including without limitation any contract to sell, any deeds, mineral deeds, royalty deeds, leases, sub-leases, releases, assignments, operating agreements, drilling agreements, farm-out agreements, and agreements, conveyances, and transfers affecting or relating to rights, royalties, overriding royalties, and similar interests, also division orders, dry-hole and bottom-hole letters, and related agreements..." It is signed "John F. Kennedy" in bold black ink, and notarized and sealed by Edward H. White. Fine condition.
