John Dos Passos, 1919 First Edition
John Dos Passos, 1919 (New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1932), first edition, 473 pages, untrimmed, orange-cloth binding with silver lettering, 12mo (7.75" x 5.25"), dust jacket (in protective sleeve). Chicago-born John Dos Passos (1896-1970) graduated from Harvard, studied art and architecture in Spain, and drove an ambulance during World War I (like his fellow "Lost Generation" novelist Ernest Hemingway). Back in the States in 1927, he joined other artists, including Upton Sinclair, in a futile effort to save anarchists Sacco and Vanzetti from the electric chair. Published in 1932, 1919 was the second volume in his "U.S.A. Trilogy," which also includes The 42nd Parallel (1930) and The Big Money (1936). The book is in very good condition with minor wear; the dust jacket is fair-good with paper loss at the top edge and along the bottom of the spine.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
