Painter, set designer, and caricaturist (1895–1947) who worked as a cartoonist for the New York Evening World until 1928,  when he moved to Hollywood and took up fine art. Many film stars, including Anthony Quinn, Errol Flynn, Charlie Chaplin, Greta Garbo, and the Marx Brothers, commissioned Decker to paint their portraits  and many of his works were used in films. California Bank check, 6 x 2.75, filled out and signed by Gene Fowler, payable to John Decker for $40, October 8, 1941. Endorsed on the reverse in black ink by Decker. Fowler has added to the upper left of the check, "For painting." In very good to fine condition, with trimmed edges affecting Decker's signature.

Gene Fowler was an American journalist, author, and dramatist (1890–1960) who wrote more than a dozen screenplays, including What Price Hollywood? (1932), The Call of the Wild (1935) and Billy the Kid (1941).
