American entrepreneur (1839–1937) who entered the oil industry at the age of 24 and worked ruthlessly to unify his business interests into the powerful Standard Oil Trust. DS, signed “J. D. Rockefeller,” one page, 16 x 8, February 29, 1888. Brown stock certificate for 100 shares of Standard Oil issued to W. C. Andrews, signed at the bottom, as president of Standard Oil, by Rockefeller. An embossed machine cancellation to signatures, slightly perforating paper, attached stub to edge of certificate, and previous storage folds, otherwise fine condition. A handsome and well-preserved example.
