"Field notes of a survey". Hand-drawn survey and field notes signed by Texas Ranger Captain John Coffee Hays, acting as Bexar County Surveyor at the time, elected 1841. The Texas Republic was expanding, surveying was a dangerous job in which Jack Hays was second-to-none in this department. Report and Hays' statement are in the writing of Bexar County Deputy Surveyor, John James, Hays' verification reads: "I John C Hays, County Survr: Bexar County do hereby certify that I have examined the foregoing field notes and find them correct and survey made according to Law." In blue ink, Hays signs "John C. Hays C.T.B.C." Survey drawing includes San Pedro Springs, its subsidiaries as well as neighboring land owners. Quad folded, 7.5" x 12.25", San Antonio, February 13, 1846. Acequia Madre of the Alamo is present on the survey map.
