John C. Pickett Charge d'Affaires to Bogata Descriptive 1830 Autograph Letter Signed "John C. Pickett". Three pages, Bogata [Columbia], October 10, 1830, to Captain James Dimmitt, Kentucky, with the usual fold creases and some old taped repairs, else very good. In this letter Dimmitt describes the fertile lands of Columbia "...here can be found the finest soil and unfinest [sic] climates with the most varied production under heaven...Cocao flourishes in the warmer climate then come coffee...Nature seems to have done everything for this country, though man but little...You will perceive from this slight sketch that Colombia is most signally blessed with every advantage that nature can confer, & if she had but a good constitution well administered she would certainly be one of the happiest countries on the face of the globe...". An interesting first-hand account.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
