Famed American naturalist (1837–1921) best known for his writings on nature and travel. ALS, one page, 5 x 8, November 14, 1894. Burroughs writes Edward H. Currier of Manchester, New Hampshire, regarding the naturalist’s standards of work and sketches. In part: “Many thanks for the interest you express in my out-of-doors sketches. I can hardly continue to write them & keep up to my standard because that freshness of mind & delight of observation which they require, will leave me more or less as time goes on. Then I should weary my readers if I kept on much longer.” In very good condition, with two small tears along the left edge and scattered overall creasing. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
