Famed American naturalist (1837–1921) best known for his writings on nature and travel. ALS, one page, 5 x 8, September 11. The poet and naturalist writes a note of thanks to a woman who sent him information regarding a red headed bird and writes, in part: “I find your incident of the red headed woodpecker very interesting…You have many more of those birds in your state than we have here.” In fine condition, with a mild shade of toning.
