Two ALSs, each one page, dated November 27 [no year] and January 9, 1897. Both to editor Richard Watson Gilder, concerning potential publication of literary works. The first, in pencil, in part: "I have a paper of about 3600 words called 'Loitering with Nature' which I should like sold to a magazine, to be published by or before March next. Do you care to see it?" The second, in ink, in part: "I have a little essay of about 3000 words 'On Going Back to Books.' It is readable…Would you care to see it for the Century?" In overall fine condition, with a thick checkmark over the signature on the pencil letter, and a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top of the other letter.
