John Bell Hood Signature "John B.Hood Brt. 2nd Lt. 4th Infy." General Hood was one of the most aggressive Confederate generals, and he served in many famous battles including Gettysburg, Antietam, and Chickamauga. In both Gettysburg and Chickamauga, Hood had a limb disabled; his leg was amputated at Chickamauga. This signature is dateable between February 1844 and October of 1855. Hood graduated from West Point in 1853, and he was given command of the 4th in February of 1854. He served his post till October of 1855 when he was transferred to the 2nd Calvary Regiment in Fort Mason, Texas. He was only brevetted 2nd Lieutenant of the 4th Infantry for those months. Hood's record as general is somewhat marred by those defeats he was dealt by the Union army, however, he was still one of the most feared and respected generals of the war.

The signature is in very good condition; it has been cut off a larger document; a large stain covers the right side of the clipping, this covers a large portion of the signature. The signature is still dark and legible.

Important not
