British naval administrator and explorer (1764–1848) who mapped the interior of South Africa and promoted the exploration of the Arctic; the Barrow Strait in northern Canada was named in his honor. Attractive partly-printed vellum DS, signed “Jno. Barrow,” one page, 12.25 x 16.25, August 20, 1835. Scalloped-top ship's pass issued to the vessel "Pearl of London…to pass with her Company Passengers Goods & Merchandise without any Let Hindrance Seizure of Molestation." Signed at the conclusion by Barrow. The handsomely engraved document retains its original white and blue paper seals, with the reverse side bearing the "Certificate of British Registry," which declares the vessel owner as Fletcher Wilson.
