Hand-addressed panel, 7.5 x 3, addressed by Adams to “The Honourable Benjamin W. Crowningshield, Secretary for the Department of the Navy, Washington,” along with “Mr. Dix” to the lower left. Affixed to a slightly larger envelope with docketing from Dix. In very good to fine condition, with toning to the bottom edge, a vertical fold to the right side (writing unaffected), a small tear to the top edge, and some show-through from adhesive. Accompanied by an original carte-de-visite portrait of Adams from the Brady National Gallery.
