Early John Adams autograph note signed, ''J. Adams'' as a lawyer in Boston, Massachusetts. Dated 31 March 1769, court summons is partially printed, with Adams' note reading, ''And the Said Nathaniel comes & defends &c and Saith he never promised in manner & Form as the Plaintiff has above declared against him.'' That same year Adams got his first big break as an attorney defending John Hancock against charges of smuggling. Partial document measures 7.25'' x 3''. Minor paper loss in two places from an ink burn and mild toning, else near fine.
