Illustrated with official and personal photographs. Octavo. 488 pages.<BR><BR>Original blue cloth with titles in gilt on the spine and front board. Light spots of mildew present on the boards, else a stunningly beautiful copy in a beautiful price-clipped dust jacket. Very good.<BR><BR>Lejeune, known as a "Marine's Marine", rapidly rose through the ranks and served with distinction from the Spanish-American War through WWI. During WWI he assumed command of the U. S. Army's 2nd Division, becoming the first Marine officer to hold an army command. Following WWI he was appointed Major General Commandant of the Marine Corps. After retiring from the Corps he served as superintendent of the Virginia Military Institute from 1929 until 1937.
