Scarce autograph musical quotation signed in the hand of master composer Johannes Brahms. Composition is for Brahm's Clarinet Sonata No. 1 in F minor, Op. 120. It is the pianoforte for the first movement, ''Allegro Appassionato.'' This sonata was written by Brahms in 1894 upon being inspired by the clarinetist Richard Muhlfeld, and after Brahms unsuccessfully resolved to stop composing. It was, in fact, during this later period that Brahms produced some of his most acclaimed masterpieces. Signed at bottom, ''J. Brahms'' along with the dateline ''Wien [Vienna] / Febr 97'', only two months before Brahms death. Composition measures 5.5'' x 4''. Some toning, overall in very good condition with dark handwriting and a bold signature. Scarce.
