Johann Ulrich Mayr (b. Augsburg - 1704 Augsburg), attributed to, Portrait of a Novice, order of St Clare, oil on canvas, 89 x 71 cm, w/ frame, (Wo).€ 1.600 - 2.200 US $ 1.580 - 2.180 Expert's Report: we would like to thank Ludwig Meyer, Archiv für Kunstgeschichte for the attribution to Johann Ulrich Mayr. Mayr, a student of Rembrandt and Jacob Jordaens, worked for the courts at Vienna, Munich, Durlach, and Heidelberg. The present painting appears to have been painted in Vienna and probably shows a young noblewoman upon taking the veil. Ludwig Meyer's attribution is based on stylistic similarities between this painting and a self-portrait of the artist at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nürnberg.
