(ligature) Harms fecit 1674, oil on canvas, 63 x 88 cm, w/o frame, (Wo).€ 20.000 - 30.000 US $ 19.800 - 29.700 Johann Oswald Harms was a painter of architectures, landscapes, stage sets, frescoes, and watercolours, and in particular of monumental and decorative compositions designed for the palaces of nobility. Fantastic landscapes like the one above are indebted to Salvator Rosa, who proved very influential for his work during Harms' stay in Rome in the 1670. Like many Italian artists, e.g. Pietro da Cortona, his paintings are full of spatial illusions and trompe l'oeil architectures.
