Mildner's art is in a class of its own. Born as the son of the glass grinder Franz Xaver Mildner in Northern Bohemia, an area with a long tradition of glass-manufacture and painting, the economic repercussions of the Seven Years War forced the family to leave Kaltenberg and, in 1779, settle in Gutenbrunn bei Martinsberg, in the Lower Austrian district of Zwettl. At the time, Gutenbrunn was part of the lands of Joseph Weber Edlen von Fürnberg, a retired infantry colonel, for whom Mildner worked until 1795. This was followed by assignments for Emperor Franz I., who owned a chateau in Gutenbrunn, and other local notables. Mildner was a glass artist and glass painter, using the ornamental repertoire of his day to give every single glass or service a unique flair. From 20.7.1787 to 1795 he exclusively used the so-called major, "große Fürnberg-Signatur". From 1796 onward, after Fünrbergs became k.k. family property he used the so-called minor "kleine Signatur: Mildner Fec: á Gutenbrunn" until his death in the year 1808. € 6.500 - 12.000 US $ 6.400 - 11.900
