('Privat Eigentum Seiner Majestät'/ Private Property of His Majesty), w/ frame, ca. 1855, (Lu).EURO 13.000 - 16.000 US $ 11.200 - 13.800 During the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I, the 1st 'Arcieren' Life Guards, with their "poncean" red, gold-embroidered uniform coats like no other institution embodied the splendour of the imperial court. The painting includes: 4 guard trumpeters, 1 captain leading the guardsmen, who in turn escort the unoccupied imperial carriage. in the foreground a lieutenant on an Arab. The Michaelerplatz Sq. resp. the Hofburg Palace still appears as it did before the re-construction of 1889. Johann E. G. Prestel was summoned to Vienna in the early 50s where he was employed as a court painter until 1861.
