Handwritten lyrics to the Ramones’ song ‘Censorshit’ on two 8 x 12 lightly-lined yellow sheets. Joey writes several verses of a more polished draft in black ink. Ramone writes (with grammar and spelling retained), in part: “Hey Mrs Senators wives/You gettin any/Just ask Ozzy Zappa Perry Farrell—an me/We’ll show you what its like to feel free/Tipper come on aren’t you gettin it on/Just ask Ozzy Zappa an me/We’ll show you what its like to feel free/We come so far but only to find people like you with ignorant minds.” Along the left edge of the second page, Ramone also adds a short note to Steve, which reads, “Steve, I’m really gonna try to run a respectable radio show here.” Next to the note, Ramone appears to jot down several titles for his radio show, incorporating his signature. “Joey Ramone’s Radio NY,” “Radio,” “Radio Coup,” and “Sensational Respectable Radio Show.” In fine condition, with central horizontal fold, a few creases, and a couple of light spots. The song ‘Censorshit’ was featured on the band’s 1992 album Mondo Bizarro, and was written by Joey to Tipper Gore and the PMRC (Parents Music Resource Center) about how rap and rock n’ roll albums were being censored. Ramone also had a radio show in early 1996 entitled Joey Ramone’s Radio Coup, which appeared on the Addicted to Noise audio channel. Provenance: Joey Ramone Estate. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the Joey Ramone Estate.
