Rocky is a 1976 American sports drama film directed by John G. Avildsen and both written by and starring Sylvester Stallone.

It tells the rags to riches American Dream story of Rocky Balboa, an uneducated but kind-hearted working class Italian-American boxer working in a meat warehouse and as a debt collector for a loan shark in the slums of Philadelphia.

Rocky starts out as a small-time club fighter, and later gets a shot at the world heavyweight championship. The film, made on a budget of just over $1 million and shot in 28 days, was a sleeper hit; it earned $225 million in global box office receipts, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1976, and went on to win three Oscars, including Best Picture. The film received many positive reviews and turned Stallone into a major star. In 2006, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Rocky is considered to be one of the greatest sports films ever made.

About Joe Petruccio:

Whether you are a music lover, sports fan or just appreciate good art, you will love Joe Petruccio’s work. During the past several years, Petruccio has risen to celebrity status himself becoming the premier entertainment fine art artist.

He was recognized by CNBC as "one of the best known celebrity artists in the world" with his work hanging in the collections of Sylvester Stallone, Dickey Betts (Allman Bros), Tiger Woods, and more than 75 other celebrities.

What is it about Joe Petruccio that makes him so special? As Jerry Shilling, Elvis’ best friend said: “Joe has a unique ability to capture the essence of an individual like no other artist today.” Many people say when you put a Joe Petruccio piece on your wall, the wall becomes alive.

Joe’s Art is all about quality first…everything else is second. By combining his drawing and painting skills he has created a fascinating and compelling style all his own and has brought the art of portraits to an entirely new level. Perhaps it is Joe’s love of pop culture that has enabled him to capture rock icons and sports heroes so brilliantly, or maybe it’s simply his keen eye and sense of perspective. Ask Joe where the power comes from in his images, and he’ll tell you, “I want to give the viewer of my work the best seat in the house.”

Joe was the first and continues to be an approved artist for Elvis Presley Enterprises. He is also an approved artist for Muhammad Ali Enterprises and has created fine art approved and signed by Joe Namath and Al Pacino. Recently, his Star Wars art has been licensed by Lucas Film Ltd.
He was chosen by MGM Studios and Sylvester Stallone to create artwork to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of “Rocky.” In addition, Joe has created a fine art line featuring Stallone’s Rambo character.

Past accomplishments include being chosen as an approved artist for the Rock n’ Roll Fantasy Camp, where his sheet music portraits were added to the collections of more than 100 of the biggest rock stars around, including Slash, Joe Walsh, Brett Michaels, Levon Helm, Brian Wilson and others.
