Joe Grandee
Joe Ruiz Grandee, born in 1929 in Dallas as a third generation Texan, is known as an artist of stunning and historically accurate paintings. Although Grandee studied the academic side of painting at the Aunspaugh Art School in Dallas in 1947, he began painting scenes of the American West in his own style by 1948. Within a decade, he became a practicing professional painter, painting what he knew firsthand: The West. A one-man retrospective of his work was held at the U.S. Capitol in 1974, and he was appointed an official state artist of Texas by the Texas Legislature.
