This is an original vintage black and white photograph, not a digital reprint or reproduction. The photo was taken by George Hurrell, who contributed to the image of glamour presented by Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s. Hurrell was the head of the portrait photography department at MGM and photographed every star contracted to MGM, and his striking black-and-white images were used extensively in the marketing of these stars. The photo is stamped with an MGM stamp on the front and the photographer's stamp on the back. Joan Crawford was an American film and television actress who began her career as a dancer and stage showgirl. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Crawford tenth on its list of the greatest female stars of Classic Hollywood Cinema.
