Jimmy Swinnerton - Original Comic Strip Art for
Jimmy Swinnerton - Original Comic Strip Art for Mr. Jack Sunday dated 3-7-19(?) and Little Jimmy Daily dated 2-11-20 (King Features Syndicate, circa 1920). Offered here are two beautiful examples of the work of cartoonist Jimmy Swinnerton. The Mr. Jack daily is a classic, as our hero once again tries to make time with a beautiful lady, and ends up the worse for it. With an image area of approximately 9.5" x 10", and in excellent condition, this is a fantastic example of Swinnerton's early work, and is signed by the artist in the last panel. It should be noted that the attributed year of this piece, 1919, is somewhat suspect, and represents our best guess at this time. However, this piece is almost certainly from an earlier period in this strip's history. The Little Jimmy daily that is also offered in this lot represents Swinnerton's longest running feature (it debuted in 1904, and ran until Swinnerton injured his hand and had to retire in 1958, at the age of 82), and was the artist's personal favorite of all his creations. This particular example perfectly captures the focus of the strip, a young boy who, with the best of intentions, is always getting into trouble. In excellent condition, this piece displays an approximate image area of 9.5" x 9.25" and is signed by Swinnerton in the last panel. This is an excellent opportunity to obtain two classic strips by one of the medium's greatest creators. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
