American blues musician and songwriter (1925-1976) notable for bringing his distinctive style of blues to mainstream audiences. Desirable DS, one page, 8.25 x 11, July 18, 1955. American Federation of Musicians (AFM) contract in which Jimmy Reed agrees to a three-hour recording session at Chicago's Universal Recording Corporation on July 18, 1955, for a sum of $247.50. Signed at the conclusion in blue ballpoint by Reed, and countersigned by James Bracken, co-owner of Vee Jay Records. In fine condition, with scattered light creasing and toning. Accompanied by an official letter from AFM to Reed, October 17, 1957, regarding "expenses due covering breach of contract," a copy of a statement relating to the theft of Reed's car, an ALS signed by his wife Mary as "Mrs. Reed," dated March 25, 1956, and a sheet of handwritten lyrics to an unknown song, apparently drafted in pencil by Reed's wife, who sometimes had to help her husband remember the lyrics to his songs while recording.
