Rare pair of very early ALSs: an ALS in pencil, signed “James Rodgers,” one page, 5 x 7, no date but postmarked May 2, 1911, to his uncle Tom Bozeman, in full (spelling and grammar retained): “We are making a little money and having a good time to. I thing we will be in Birmingham Ala Saturday one time I hope all is well, tell all I said helo”; includes the original mailing envelope addressed in Rodgers’s hand. Second ALS is signed “James Rodgers,” one page, 6 x 8, New Hotel Macon letterhead, October 12. 1913, to his aunt Dara Bozeman, in full: “You are well I hope. I will be down there during the fair, and I might stay up to the house sister and I are well how are you all and tell Talmage to write to me how is he. Well I will close I have got to eat supper at 6. Answer soon.” Double-matted and framed with an image and plaque to an overall size of 18 x 21. In overall very good condition, with repaired rears to both letters (one passing into the signature on the first letter), toning, and tears to envelope. Rodgers letters are very rare on their own, and these—both written during his early teenage years—represent an important formative period of his life.
