Amazing set of six progressive serigraph proofs plus one poster acetate for a 1989 printing of the iconic Rick Griffin BG-105 ‘Flying Eyeball’ Jimi Hendrix concert poster, each measuring 29 x 44.25, representing the steps along the multicolored screen printing process. The seventh piece features a full-size acetate of the appearance of the final text and graphics. Most bear pencil notations along the bottom identifying the details of the proof, the sixth reading: “Artist: Rick Griffin, 4. White Undercoat, Metallic Gold, Yellow, Trans. Cyan, 1st Red, Blue Blend, 2nd Red. Arellanes Co: Lory Arellanes, Maria Schulz, John Silletto, 1989 Printer’s Proof Progressive.” In overall fine condition. Arellanes Studios produced a hand-printed limited edition run of 500 of these officially authorized silkscreen prints in 1989, stunningly reproduced at twice the size of the original 1968 poster. The printer’s proofs for these posters are exceedingly rare—perhaps one-of-a-kind as a full set—and demonstrate the attention to detail and remarkably high quality of the final product. This fantastic set of proofs amounts to an enormous display of seven oversized pieces that represent the process behind recreating a pop culture masterpiece. Oversized.
